The Secret Wildlife of the Forest of Dean  -  Nick Martin

Nick is a wildlife photographer.  This talk has been popular with audiences ranging from bird and wildlife groups to photographic clubs.  People are always amazed with the diversity of wildlife there.

Sites in the forest include Cyril Hart Arboretum, east of Speech House, and New Fancy View and Cannop Pools, looking for Hawfinch, Crossbills and the elusive Goshawk.  Dipper are also found on the brook running north from the Wenchford car park at Organs Green.  This path leads to one of the best areas of Beech in the forest and is a wonderful place to see bluebells in spring.  One of the most popular places with tourists is Symonds Yat Rock where the viewpoint gives spectacular views across seven counties and the River Wye down below.

The BOS conducted a survey of Yellowhammers in the first 2 weeks of July 2018 to determine their population abundance, distribution and breeding status. All members and the general public were invited to participate. Read more ...
